Our Achievements
Starfish Ventures has contributed direct financial aid to a number of development projects throughout Thailand. Last year Starfish Ventures completed several key projects and donated over 600,000 Thai Baht.
These projects include building several new organic farms at various locations throughout Surin. The work was completed by volunteers and is constantly kept up to date by new volunteers who arrive regularly. All of the products grown on these farms are then used either by the local communities they support or are used to feed the children in the local community centres and schools, for free.
Starfish volunteers demolished a very unhygienic toilet block and rebuilt a new one that includes new toilets, a new shower system and new hand wash basins. Starfish is dedicated to improving health, safety and hygiene at schools throughout the region.
We have also refurbished, redecorated and improved health and safety at several childcare centre throughout the region. Driving around Surin now you will often come across brightly painted murals and sparkling playground equipment.
In July 2010 Starfish is undertaking its biggest project to date, building a new house for a very poor single mother and her four young children. They are currently living in a wooden hut that is in very serious danger of total collapse, leaving them practically homeless. The new home will see them living in a concrete house on fixed foundations, have running water, a toilet and a safe, hygienic kitchen.
Development is key to improving the surroundings of the communities we support. With development comes interest, with interest comes education, with education come better lifestyles. Starfish runs development projects throughout the year with our big school development work happening in April and October whilst the schools are closed for half-term. If you would like more details about our development work and how you can get involved, please do send us an email.
