Our Name

The name Starfish was inspired by an old Thai story.

Two monks, a teacher and his novice, were walking along a beach and saw thousands upon thousands of starfish washed up on the shore. The senior monk began throwing the starfish back into the sea. The novice asked, ‘Why? It is an impossible task to return all to the sea.’ The senior monk picked up one starfish and said, ‘Because it matters to him.’

Being a volunteer isn’t about changing the world it is about doing your little bit, and if everyone did their little bit, we can make a difference.
