Fundraising

Initially the cost of becoming a self-funding volunteer maybe a little daunting but with a little hard work and imagination you can raise the required funds.

You may already have savings and require a little extra or alternatively you may be starting from scratch. Whatever your circumstances, your first task is to set yourself a target to ensure you know the complete price of your time abroad.

Once you know how much you need to raise, your next task is to work out what you're going to do and who can help. Speak to close friends and family and ask if they want to help. Once you've explained the worthwhile work you will be undertaking your friends and family may offer their help and support. Two or more heads are better than one and along with our support planning your fundraising activity should be an enjoyable event.

You may want to look at what you're good at. Are you a great runner? Is there a fun run in your area you could get sponsorship for?

The thing about fundraising is there are a million and one things to do but originality is the key. One of our volunteers arranged a speed dating evening. The night was a complete success. Everyone had a marvellous time and our volunteer raised a substantial sum towards the cost of their venture.
